Hughley was born on March 6, 1963, in Los Angeles, California. His parents were Audrey and Charles Hughley, who worked as maintenance technicians in Delta Air Lines. Hughley grew up in South Central, Los Angeles, after spending barely two months in Portsmouth before his family relocated. Hughley’s adolescence was marred by his involvement with the Bloods, a prominent street gang, and his expulsion from San Pedro High School.
