Napoleon Hill Bio

Napoleon Hill was a self-help author from the United States. He is best known for his 1937 self-help book Think and Grow Rich, which is one of the top ten best-selling self-help books of all time. Hill’s writings emphasized the importance of having high expectations in order to improve one’s life. The majority of his books were marketed as elaborating on “success” principles.

Who is Napolean Hill?

Napoleon Hill was born in the year 1883, in the United States of America. He came from a poor family who lived in the Virginia hills.

Napoleon Hill began working for his father’s newspaper at the age of thirteen. He enrolled in law school with the money he earned (Georgetown University). He withdrew because this was insufficient.

He kept writing and had a watershed moment in 1908 when he was assigned to interview Andrew Carnegie. This interview took three days rather than three hours to complete. Mr. Carnegie was one of the most powerful men in the world at the time. He proposed to Napoleon Hill that he invest his time and effort in studying and exploring wealthy people in order to understand their success formula without receiving any compensation. Napoleon Hill accepted this challenge because he was already poor and had nothing to lose. His curiosity also provided him with the motivation to take on this challenge. As a result, Napoleon Hill conducted numerous interviews with prominent figures of the time, including Henry Ford, Alexander Graham Bell, and others.

Napolean Hill – 13 Principles – Philosophy

  • Desire – Wishing for money isn’t going to help you get rich. However, desiring riches with an obsessional state of mind, then planning specific ways and means to acquire riches, and following through on those plans with a tenacity that ignores failure, will result in riches.
  • Faith – Riches begin with a thought! Only the person whose mind the thought is put into motion limits the amount. Faith is a liberator!
  • Auto-Suggestion – Your ability to use the principle of auto-suggestion is largely determined by your ability to focus on a single desire until it becomes a burning obsession.
  • Specialized Knowledge – In all walks of life, successful men never stop learning about their main purpose, business, or profession. Those who fail frequently believe that the period of learning ends when they graduate from high school.
  • Imagination – All fortunes begin with ideas. Ideas are the result of one’s imagination. Man’s only limit, within reason, is his ability to develop and use his imagination. Don’t be afraid to generate and develop new ideas.
  • Organized Planning – After you’ve visualized your success, it’s time to act and go after it. You must be tenacious and enthusiastic in your actions. Step forward, choose what you want, make a plan, put it into action, and stick to it.
  • Decision – Those who make decisions quickly know what they want and are more likely to get it. People who fail to accumulate wealth, in general, have a tendency to make decisions slowly, if at all, and to change their minds quickly and frequently. Decisiveness isn’t just a wealthy trait; it’s also one of the most important qualities a leader must-have. At the end of the day, making a poor choice is preferable to making none at all.
  • Persistence – When it comes to accumulating wealth, persistence is essential, but few people have the willpower to turn their desire for money into actual money. Wishes are ignored by the wealthy. They only respond to specific plans backed by specific desires when they are persistent.
  • Power of the Mind – The richest people are surrounded by talented friends and colleagues who share their vision. The power of a group of smart and creative minds is exponentially greater than that of a single smart and creative mind.
  • The Mystery of Sex Transmutation – When sexual energy is harnessed and redirected, it can enhance our creativity, passion, enthusiasm, and persistence, all of which are essential in accumulating wealth. Love, romance, and sex are all powerful emotions that can propel men to new heights. These three emotions, when combined, have the potential to elevate one to the level of genius.
  • The Subconscious Mind – The subconscious mind isn’t going to sit still! If you don’t plant desires in your subconscious mind, the thoughts that reach it as a result of your neglect will feed it. The mind cannot be occupied by both positive and negative emotions at the same time. One of the other must take precedence. It is your responsibility to make sure that positive emotions have the upper hand in your mind.
  • The Brain – Our brain is a “transmitter and recipient of vibrations of thought,” absorbs thoughts of others around us and makes associating with intelligent, creative, and positive individuals even more important.
  • The Sixth Sense: Trust your Gut – You’ll be alerted to impending dangers in time to avoid them, and you’ll be alerted to opportunities in time to take advantage of them, thanks to your sixth sense.

Napoleon Hill devoted 20 years of his life to studying the world’s most successful people and elucidating their common traits in order to ensure that the average person could achieve success. His work is legendary, and his books and wise quotes will live on in perpetuity.
